General

Do you charter boats for private tours?

We do! We have 3 different vessels available for chartering starting at $895. Chartering allows you to have to boat and naturalist to yourself for a more intimate experience. Ask us about catering options!

Where are you located?

Our Whale Watch vessel departs from Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. San Juan Island is located about 90 miles north of Seattle. We work with Kenmore Air to provide the Whale Plane Package which departs from Lake Union in Seattle.

How do I get to San Juan Island?

You can ferry or fly! The WA State Ferry bound form San Juan Island departs from Anacortes, WA. Anacortes is an easy 1.5-2 hour drive north of downtown Seattle. We also partner with Kenmore Air to fly guests directly from Seattle Lake Union to Friday Harbor for our Whale Watch and Wildlife Tour. The Whale Plane Package includes roundtrip air and the Whale Watch and Wildlife Tour.

What is a “Whale Plane”?

A whale plane is our flight and whale watch package that we provide by working with Kenmore Air. The package includes roundtrip airfare from Lake Union in downtown Seattle to the docks in the Friday Harbor Marina. Both scenic and exciting, traveling by float plane only takes an hour! Read more about the Whale Plane here.

Payment

When is full payment due?

Full payment is taken when you make your reservation. To make a firm reservation a credit card must be taken and payment processed.

What is the cancellation policy?

With parties of 1-4 there is a 48 hour cancellation policy, groups of 5-9 10 days, and large groups of 10 or more have a 30 day cancellation policy. All charters are non-refundable inside 30 days.

Do you guarantee whales?

Orcas can travel 100+ miles per day and can sometimes travel in unpredictable patterns, making it unrealistic to make any guarantees. We work with the Pacific Whale Watch Association for all of our sightings and know of all orcas spotted in our area. During the summer months we view orcas on over 90% of our tours.

Do you go in the rain?

We do! We have a large inside cabin and covered outside area to keep guests dry and extra slickers on board if you forget your rain gear. No matter the time of year, we recommend keeping an eye on the forecast and coming dressed appropriately for the weather.

Requirements

Do I need a passport?

No passport needed! While we may travel into Canadian waters to view whales and wildlife, no passport is needed for our tour.

Do I need a photo ID?

You only need a photo ID if you are participating in the Whale Plane package. Kenmore Air will need a valid driver’s license or passport to check you in for your flight.

What should I bring?

Snacks, water, hat, sunglasses, a camera, and extra layers.

What should I wear?

Long pants, fleece/warm jacket or sweatshirt, a windbreaker layer, and flat non-skid closed toed shoes. Even on warm days it is 10-20 degrees cooler on the water. If you tend to get cold a warm hat and gloves are also great ideas.
